The Suso and Yuso monasteries in San Millán de la Cogolla (La Rioja, Spain) were declared World Heritage sites in 1997. This recognition was awarded for their historical, artistic and religious connections, as well as for linguistic and literary reasons - a series of values they embody making them unique. The surrounding landscape is truly stunning and together the two monasteries, Suso, ‘the upper one’, and Yuso, ‘the lower one’, are a hugely important and remarkable monumental site.
