This is one of a series of twelve flower-themed prints. Okiie Hashimoto is known for growing all kinds of flowers in his own garden, which he then used in his works. Although obviously influenced by such works as Korin Ogata’s “Eight-Planked Bridge” folding screen painted with Japanese irises along a bridge, it is a masterful piece that combines the ornamental quality of Japanese-style painting and a forcefulness resulting from the artist’s observation of nature.
