The axe dates back to the Middle Ages. In those times, it was one of the most common personal offensive weapons on battlefields, primarily used by less wealthy warriors. The axe head has a flat, rectangular butt, reinforced with an overlay, and a socket with a triangular cross-section. Its blade is elongated, slightly asymmetrical, showing signs of welding and a triangular protrusion on the lower edge. A hallmark — double arrow in the target — is stamped on the side of the blade. The axe was found in the 1970s in Wąwolnica.
