Starting in 1960, TAMURA Kōichi began to focus on creating work that featured a plum motif. This exceptional design succeeded in dramatically increasing his reach as an artist. For this vase, Tamura first applied glaze to the foundation, followed by a plum design using wax. Atop this, he then poured over an iron glaze, nearly black in color, thereby leaving only the outline of the plum behind. It is a piece that showcases Tamura’s outstanding sense of design and innovation.
