Item of furniture

A chest with doors in the style of English models typical of the reign of William and Mary. Its production was commissioned by the Díaz Velázquez sisters. The furniture in the sales room (cabinet 3 in Room VI on the museum's main floor) was intended to keep pieces that were on sale, like table linens, bed sheets and other smaller pieces, as well as the repertory of designs that could be applied to the fabrics. Special attention was therefore paid to storage. It is therefore frequent to find furniture with doors instead of drawers and with large surfaces on which to lay out the pieces.

The designs, conceived by the sisters, were inspired on historic Spanish and English models of furniture. Some pieces are copied and adapted to their new functions. The majority are in chestnut which is the reason this piece in walnut stands out.
