Longevity Star God (壽星) is often referred as an Immortal Old Man (壽老人), Old Man Star(老人星), Southern Ladle (南斗) or Old Man of the South Pole Star (南極老人星). During the Han Dynasty the role of the old deity was limited to maintaining the stability of the nation and the life span of the nation’s ruler. By the time of Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty however, he came to be revered even more widely as the one who determines the life span of each and every individual. This deity is usually depicted as an old man of a short stature with a bulging forehead and a long head.
