The game Jackstraws, also known as Pick-up Sticks, originally dates from ancient times. The game's origins are unknown but historians believe players originally tossed pieces of straw in a pile, and then removed them one by one. During the late 19th century, and contining through to the present, some manufacturers produced Jackstraw sets with straws made of wood and shaped like tools. These sets differ from classic Pick-up Sticks--which are simple straight wood or plastic sticks. But both these games are played the same way. The box cover graphic, on this Parker Brothers example, may refer to the origins of the game.
