The protruding cannon tower of the Eastern suburbs of the Lower Town is named after the Jaksic brothers, medieval nobles known from folklore and heroic epic songs. In terms of shape and function, the Jaksic Tower is identical to the Nebojsa Tower in the port, only it is proportionally smaller. Archaeological excavations of the Belgrade Fortress practically began with the excavation of the Jaksic Tower in 1936.
