This handsome Palladian style building was designed by the architect James Paine, seemingly at the time that he was working on designs for the Temple of Diana and his other projects at Weston Park in the 1760s. The kennel would have been a highly ornamental building in the landscape park at Weston and was probably intended to be built at the east end of the park, close to the Lichfield or London Lodge. The main block, with its single storey elliptical portico, is reminiscent of Paine's classical dairy at Wardour in Wiltshire showing how architects came to develop favoured features or leit motifs
