Jardim da Cordoaria (Ropeyard Garden) in the early 20th century

The establishment of a ropeyard in the Campo do Olival (Olive Grove Field) is first mentioned in the 18th century. A public walkway was built in 1865, under the design of the German landscape architect Emilio David (1839-1869).
