Jenny Anderson

North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club

North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club
North Bondi, Australia

Jenny Anderson was widely regarded as the mother of all women surfers at North Bondi. “I joined the Club because our 4 children became Nippers. David Einfeld persuaded us to join North Bondi. David and Gary Shiels were keen to get some female members and I could swim well despite my ‘mature’ years. So with my daughter Georgiana and Gaye Rosen, we started the Bronze Medallion. The exam was the most difficult thing I have ever done. Both Gaye and I finally passed the Bronze after a belt swim in very nasty seas. A year of patrol followed. Gaye and I were soon promoted to Patrol Captains. With the extra responsibilities, my confidence grew along with a desire to put more into North Bondi. I had 3 aims: 1. Perform in a manner which encouraged new members and hopefully sent a message to the present male membership that active women on patrol would not lead to the downfall of the club. 2. Obtain as many life saving and resuscitation qualifications as I was capable of and use these to increase the base and quality of membership. 3. Integrate the Nippers with the Senior Club."
Jenny received life membership from her 12 active years.
