Jino Women’s Rainbow Blouse in Local Handspun Cloth Front

Named for its decoration of beautiful colored stripes, this “rainbow blouse” is made of cotton cloth and the Jinos’ unique “hacking knife cloth”, a kind of fabric handwoven by the use of a wood tool in the shape of hacking knives, hence the name. The tradition of embellishing women’s garments with colorful stripes originates in the legend that these rainbow-like ornamental belts could prevent the wearers from misfortune. The handy Jino women would make applicable patterns visible on the fabric during as early as the weaving stage by skillful arrangement of the warp and weft threads. There are fabrics for skirts and those for the other apparel, generally speaking, with no interchangeable use in most cases.
