Dr. Jo Ann Cram Joselyn
Space Scientist
1943 -
INDUCTED 2002

When Dr. Jo Ann Cram Joselyn earned her Ph.D at the University of Colorado in 1978, she quietly made history. She was the first woman at CU to earn a doctoral degree in astro-geophysics, the study of solar planetary interactions.

Jo Ann went on to serve until 1999 as a senior space scientist with National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder. She studied the interaction of solar wind storms with the Earth’s magnetic field, and how disruptions occur in communications, electric power transmissions, and air and space flights. Joselyn’s work has touched the entire world by greatly advancing the science of weather forecasting.

“My journey into science really began in grade school . . . [The] defining moment was the launch of Sputnik on my fourteenth birthday.” — Dr. Jo Ann Cram Joselyn
