John Glenn Jr. speaks to the audience at KSC's Apollo/Saturn V Center during the dinner celebration of the 40th anniversary of American spaceflight. Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth, aboard the Friendship 7 spacecraft. That journey lasted nearly five hours. In 1998, 36 years later, Glenn flew on Space Shuttle Discovery on mission STS-95, orbiting the Earth for 218 hours
