In addition to being the first horticulturist in Portugal to publish a catalogue with the products sold in his establishment, Marques Loureiro created the Practical Horticulture Journal (Jornal de Horticultura Pratica), published between 1870 and 1892, a true work of reference in the horticulture field. Many were the collaborators who sought to inform on what was being achieved internationally in the field. Its engravings, many of which were imported, disseminated forms and practices, boosting the Portuguese horticultural activity, and emphasized the importance of public gardens, as well as their protection.
