Juan Jacket and Pants with Jin-silk Hem

China National Silk Museum

China National Silk Museum
Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China

This set of jacket and pants were made of juan, a plain silk tabby or twill, on the main body and hemmed with red jin-silk with woven characters of “长葆子孙” (Chang Bao Zi Sun, means endless blessing for descendants) on cuffs, lap and placket of the jacket, and blue jin-silk with the same inscription on bottoms of trouser legs. The two pieces have both kept their original shape, though the juan fabric on the main body has been very fragile.
