"This glass base is from El Recuenco, a small village in the province of Guadalajara (Castile-La Mancha). It was made in the 18th century and it is characterised by its oval body with helicoid streaks on the upper part.
Glass production in El Recuenco has not been studied in great detail but we know that it commenced at the beginning of the 16th century and ended in the 19th century. The glass pieces stand out for their shapes, often connected with those of pottery, and also the use of glass paste with a great deal of dissolvent, which makes them particularly weak and brittle. As a result, not many examples have survived to the present day."
