From the Artist: During this time of Covid I took the opportunity to take long walks with YogiBear, my enormous Bernadoodle puppy; I began the practice of meditation, and my art classes became virtual. With winter’s chill, the opportunities for short outdoor family visits disappeared. I discovered that as my direct experiences with the outside world diminished, I brought the outside world inside, into my studio and into my work.

Between 3/20-2/21 I completed a series of more than 18 oil paintings on canvas. My art journey started 30 years ago with detailed traditional botanical watercolor paintings and drawings before moving into the abstract almost a decade ago. When I begin a painting now, I often don’t know the direction the work will take. I just start and keep painting. Adding, subtracting, blending, and adding more. Soon the painting has a voice, speaks to me and makes the unconscious known. This is the most exciting time- revealing an essence or spirit on a tangible canvas.

Nature (human and otherwise) is still my muse, but now instead of showing you the magic in great detail, this abstracted work allows you to discover the essential magic for yourself.
