This cloth, decorated with larangan (forbidden) ceplok motifs was only meant to be worn by designated members of Javanese Royalty. Ceplok motifs derive from both, pre-Hindu and Hindu symbols, with ‘ceplok’ being a generic term for geometrical designs, based on a square (belah ketupat) , and a repetition of circular forms. Ceplok also signifies the abstraction/stylization of living entities, like flowers and animals.
