  • About the craft: Bohurupi is a folk art form of Bengal, practised by the Bedia community. ‘Bohu’ means many and ‘rupi’ means forms. Bohurupis are actors who put up rustic dramatic performances through skits and mimicry based on mythological and religious characters such as Kali, Durga, Shiva and others. Nomadic in nature, they perform acts by adorning themselves with masks, jewellery, wigs, makeup, and are known for being masters of disguise. Though it had been a very popular and entertaning perorming art of rural Bengal, having a distinct cultural identity, this artform is now dying.
