This shawl is called Kapdaganda and is made by the Dongria Kondh tribe that lives in Odisha. The shawl is elaborately stitches by the women of this tribe and traditionally given by women to their brothers to gift to a woman of their choice. The giving of this shawl is recognised as a marriage proposal and the acceptance or rejection of the shawl is a sign of the girl's acceptance or rejection of the marriage proposal. The shawl is worn by both women and men. It is now also made in limited amounts for the tourist market.
