Fukuoka-ken, Japan

Kariginu costume was used for a role of a god, noble man or Tengu (a long-nosed goblin).
This robe is decorated with pattern of the Tachibana family’s crest called ‘Gion-mamori’. The central part of its design is slightly changed from the original crest, and also the pattern on the main panel is right-to-left reversed. It is very rare that a family crest was used as a decorative pattern for a Noh costume.
