The Starshade project', a space telescope that observes planets.
The big panel is going to be launched into space and block out the starlight.
Kawasaki rose folding will be applied in order to fold the panel into a compact shape for launch.
The panel will be stowed in a cylindrical rocket and unfurl into a flower-like shape.
The folding method, HanaFlex, was inspired by Kawasaki rose folding and developed by Brian Trease and his team at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
