7 October 1934. I was pouring gasoline into the car, and the lantern on the other end of the hood was standing by the water, and yet the gasoline attracted the fire, and the gas caught fire in both the can and the tank. So I covered the can with my hat and flung it away, and the tank with my fur coat, and then I stretched out my hand under the coat to put the lid on the opening. And nothing happened, I didn’t even burn myself; only my hat burned, of course.
