With the Khevenhüller chronicle from 1625 the MAK is in possession of an outstanding piece of work of the MAK Collection which so far has hardly been introduced to the public. 47 large-sized tempera illustrations document the history of the family, their personalities, and their possessions in all detail. 19 images are from the Latin version under Count Franz Christoph Khevenhüller from 1620, the others as well as the text are from 1625. The people portrayed in their robes from the 15th to the 17th century bring the times back to life when they were one of the leading noble families in Carinthia and Austria. The fact that the Khevenhüller chronicle contains for the most part the oldest pictoral representations of Carinthian, but also Lower and Upper Austrian as well as Upper Styrian fortresses and castles, makes it a real treasure for topographic as well as cultural and historical research.
