Khipus with cords wound with thread form part of a particular genre, whose origins would have preceded the Inka period. While there are no known Inka khipu with these characteristics, the technique seems to have been revived during the Colonial period. This is the first dated khipu of its type, and is believed to correspond to the Late Intermediate Period (1000-1470 AD).
