According to the later inscription, this cup was once owned by Judah Loew ben Bezalel (Maharal); it dates from roughly the same period as the famous rabbi. The importance of this item is indicated by the many repairs made by its later owners in an attempt to preserve the cup, associated with an exceptional personage.
