Kikelomo Oladepo (b. 1953) is a textile artist who was born into a family of traditional artists. Her mother was a traditional textile maker and her father, Jinadu Oladepo, was a renowned bronzecaster. At the age of 15, Kikelomo seized the chance to train as an artist with Susanne Wenger. She uses traditional Adire techniques, cassava paste and indigo, to interpret Yoruba mythology in a completely free and modern style.
In her own words: “The message and expression of my art is to remind people to go back to their traditions and culture and not to abandon their Yoruba origins. In the design of my textile work I tell people about deities and about the life of our people.”
Kikelomo Oladepo has run the art shop in Wenger’s house for decades and is fully committed to promoting the works of artists of the New Sacred Art Movement.
