The ancient settlement at the foot of the Crimean Mountains was long renowned for its natural landscapes and incredible views of the southern coast of Crimea. In the early 19th century, the settlement consisted of about 70 buildings, mostly Crimean Tatar, and the local inhabitants lived mainly from the abundant fruit orchards, flax cultivation and tobacco farming.
