Max Schmidt decorated the bare, solemn building of Kiscell monastery in line with the revivalist tastes of the time, surrounded it with a reconstituted stone wall decorated with cherubs and vases, and laid out a park. So the monastery became the Schmidt Mansion. Having smartened up the building, Schmidt used it to house his own collections and furniturre made in his own factory.
