Every miner was assigned a hook in the washrooms ("Waschkauen") of the pits. This hook was provided with a personal number. The washing utensils and private clothing could be hung from this hook during the shift. After placing the articles of clothing, the hook was pulled to the ceiling of the washroom by a chain and held in place by a locked chain on the other end.
