Kunun Gyada is a Hausa-fulani gruel prepared with raw groundnuts, local rice, sugar and if desired, Tamarind spice ('Tsamiya' in Hausa) for taste. A bowl of rice is divided in two halves, the first half is boiled, while the other half is ground. After 30 minutes of boiling the rice, the ground rice is added with the milk from the raw groundnuts (the groundnuts are soaked, peeled, ground and sieved). In 5 minutes, the mixture is ready and the 'Tsamiya' spice and sugar are added. At times, people choose not to grind the local rice, only soaking it before mixing it with the groundnut milk and sugar.
