This diptych shows a panorama of Tibet’s Kychu River and surrounding mountains in a realistic, yet sublime, manner. Tsewang Tashi intentionally leaves the painting devoid of any figures or any expected Tibetan cultural indicators that would perpetuate the myth of Tibet as an unchanging “Shangri-La.” Through his practice, Tsewang Tashi is resolved to engage the realities of contemporary life—including his physical environment and real people -- as inspirations for contemporary art.
