Wiggler magnet prototype in the PS for LEP beams preparation

1983

CERN

Electron and positron beams, which will be accelerated in the PS for onward transmission to the SPS and LEP, are not normally stable in the combined-function machine. This effect can be corrected by using “wiggler” magnets. The pictures show a prototype installed in one of the PS straight sections in order to study its effect upon the optics of the accelerator.
