"The artists of the Luminist School were especially interested in capturing man’s action on the environment and reflect the modifications the weather made to the landscape.
The railway is not the only protagonist of this work; it also addresses the notion of time. The composition includes three elements the local residents had been struggling to achieve for some time that were part of the modernisation of Sitges. Firstly, the railway, which had been inaugurated the previous year, then on the other side of the railway line, a stretch of road that since 1880 had connected the town to Barcelona and marked the town’s outer limits. Finally, in the forefront there is a telegraph post.
When Joan Roig i Soler (Barcelona, 1852-1909) settled in Sitges in 1878, the town was undergoing a transformation; its urban physiognomy was changing."
