These two borders are typical for the lace production of Antwerp, as well as a wide area around it, in the second half of the 17th century. Floral designs dominated all lace production at that time. In finer or coarser versions the lace would be used on men's and women's clothing, on table cloths and napkins, and on altar cloths and priests' garments. Most lace was made in linen, and amazing amounts of it survive.
