This painting, entitled "Landscape in the Style of Tang Yin", fully demonstrates his innovative techniques, both in terms of colouring and the rendition of the textures of rocks. Liang mainly applied a dry brush to draw the outline of the mountains in this painting, which also shows his use of zigzag-style lines. In terms of colouring, the whole area of the mountains has been applied using mineral green with random tonal variations. A painting of such style is entirely of his own creation.

  • About the Artist: Although there are many works by Liang Yuwei, very little is known about his life. Liang's brushwork features a strong individual aspect, as seen in his paintings. His works depicting both landscapes as well as birds-and-flowers show his passion for using textured strokes produced by a dry brush. Only occasionally did he supplement some of his works slightly with ink wash using a wet brush or with slight colouring and diffusion effects. His works are full of novel ideas even by today's standard.
