Paramjit Singh is best known for his ingeniously painted images of grassy lands, trees, winding paths in the woods, and water bodies with a rare textural quality that is extremely tactile. Each time he engineers a landscape with these elements, one finds something new and fresh. Singh’s sensitivity and closeness to nature is evident through his work.
Using thick pigment and applying colour with rushing strokes, he builds up landscapes which do not necessarily represent any real place and its objects, but are born out of memory and imagined visual delights, suggestively relating to the woods. The artist’s palette has an incredible range and he loves to capture light and shade with thick dabs of paint. His ability to handle paint and create vegetal textures with it is quite remarkable.
