The painting shows the bank of the River Moskva near the village of Arkhangelsk, not far from Moscow, where Alexei Savrasov worked in the summer of 1859. Researcher of the artist's work Faina Maltseva has admitted, that this painting can be considered the forebear of a new period in the development of the Russian landscape genre, since, preserving the authenticity of the depiction of nature, Savrasov, has simultaneously managed to express in it his emotional experience and praise.
