In Landscape with Burning Painting, José Alberto Marchi, known as one of the modern Latin American Master, creates an image of mystery and uncertainty. The title is a direct reference to Moses and the Burning Bush, in which God appears to Moses as a burning bush which is not destroyed by the fire, and tells Moses to free the Israelites in Egypt from oppression. Because of this reference, Marchi turns the burning of artworks into the bush as a symbol of perseverance and freedom, saying that art cannot be destroyed and that it can act as a metaphor for discussing injustice.
