Landscape with Canal

A spectacular landscape that shimmers with light and colour, executed in the Pointillist style. This was a new painting technique that had originated in Paris and which Toorop introduced to the Netherlands. The Dordrecht collector Hidde Nijland purchased the work from the artist in 1894 for a song and later donated it to the museum.
