This work depicts a field of wheat with sheaves and represents one of Rossano’s favorite subjects to paint. Rossano lived in Paris from 1876-1892, where he created landscapes imbued with a romantic melancholy. The fast brush strokes and atmospheric colors demonstrate Rossano’s knowledge of French Impressionism and the scintillating effects of light.
