During his final period, Caneja remained true to his view of the countryside of Castille, in which the smallholdings of cultivated fields can be distinguished, as in this picture. This division of the real countryside allows for a mild, placid rendering of the landscape which is nevertheless the ultimate result of the concern shown by this artist since his Cubist beginnings. The colour, which has achieved a parallel process, loses all possible rigidity and any clear distinction between the different shades, so as to establish a smooth gradation in a barely-outlined set of hues.
