Le Havre: Sunset on the Sea

In addition to his pictures of elegantly clothed bathing guests on beach promenades, Eugène Boudin painted seascapes and harbor scenes. The artist, who was celebrated as “king of the sky,” focused on the multicolored light of the setting sun, which he captured in fine gradations. Like William Turner before him, Boudin concentrated on the power of the light that dissolves contours.
