In 1858, the same revolver pistol issued to officers in the Army's hunting battalions was declared regulation for officers of the Civil Guard: the Adams-Deans Model 1857. However, given its delayed distribution, a Royal Order on April 30 the same year eventually approved the Lefaucheux revolver pistol model 1858, which is single-action, 11 mm (0.43") caliber, and holds six pinfire cartridges. This type of cartridge was typical of Lefaucheux, and was ignited by striking a small pin protruding from the side of the butt.
