This pamphlet on women in industry was owned by Elizabeth Clarke Wolstenholme Elmy, who co-authored the work with Butler and three other women (Ada Smith, Dinah Goodall and Emilie A. Venturi). The work outlines the legislative restrictions then in place that prevented women from working (e.g. marriage restrictions, limitations on working hours) and receiving adequate pay. Josephine Butler was well known for her campaigns promoting the health and welfare of prostitutes, but she also campaigned on many other women's issues, including the higher education of women and women workers.
