Legions – Polish military units formed in August 1914 by Jozef Pilsudski alongside the Austro-Hungarian Army. During World War I they fought with the Russian Army, including the battles of Rokitna and Kostiuchnówka.
Commanders and soldiers of the Legions played a substantial role in restoring Poland’s independence in 1918, and in the Second Polish Republic they played an important role in military and political structures.
