Lei kūkui. Candlenut seed necklace. This is a necklace made of kūkui seeds threaded into black textile tape. There is a knot in between each seed and a total of thirty six kūkui seeds that make up the entire necklace. The kūkui seeds are polished, dark brown in colour and hollowed. The longer ends of tape would be tied at the back of the wearers neck. This kind of necklace would be given at occasions that mark enlightenment.
