Lekythos

Conical mouth; narrow neck; sloping shoulder; vertical band handle from neck to shoulder; almost cylindrical body, tapering downwards; flaring base; concave centre on underside. Red clay; black glaze; added purple; incisions. Rim top purple; neck, inside of handle, shoulder and roughly half of body reserved; on shoulder to naked youths running to the right; a band encircles the shoulder, below figures; on body, opposite handle, a rider seen in profile and a youth making a gesture, in three-quarter view; to the left a standing youth seen in profile; to the right a standing man in himation; all three figures to the left carry spears; all figures, including the ones on the shoulder, have purple hair; incised details; black base line below figures; two purple bands on mid-body; outer edge of base and underside reserved.
