Sonia Farley was the niece of artist Gerald Lewers. She was a frequent visitor to the Penrith Regional Gallery site when it was the Lewers' family home. She began carving wood during the 1950s, and her respect for the inherent qualities of natural materials directed her practice. Her commitment to design, nature, and the unification of art and utilitarianism is evidenced in the sculptural forms and furniture within the Collection.
